Ju-Bi Eun-Bi (騊獂 醑獂) translates to ‘fly through the universe, fly gracefully’. These are named after Michelle Im’s two nieces. Their names were given by Im’s father, who was deeply attuned to the natural world. In Korean families, it’s customary to share one syllable in their names- a marker of familial connection. The second syllable “Bi” in their names evokes the act of flying. To create this piece, Im turned to her own face as reference.
